So what do I exactly do here in Greece? That’s a good question and one I’ve heard a lot of times. I’m doing my EVS (soon called ESC) in the office of Orfeas Organisation. Orfeas is the hosting Organisation of many different volunteering projects here in Xylokastro. My job is to help with everything. That gives me a lot of different tasks as writing our E-Magazine, taking care of our Social Media, having the contact with new volunteers, taking care of all the volunteers, making events for them and provide them with all they need – down to the basics of toilet paper. There is 10-20 volunteers in the city all year around – some as short terms, some for a full year and everything in between. These pictures are from our youth exchange 4 weeks ago, where I was one of the facilitators. That’s the short version. If you have questions, please write me here or on my own profile @lisecoermann 🍋🍋 #icyedk #icytovolunteer #icyetakeover

For me, the best part of my EVS is to meet new people. Some you just meet one time, some you are getting great memories with and some becomes your best friends. For me, my flat mates are my best friends here in Greece. Right now we are seven volunteers in my flat, but as everyone arrived different dates, they are also leaving different dates. That gives a nice flow of new energy in the flat, but still enough time to get really close to each other. We eat weekly arranged dinners together, plays board games until the early morning and makes memorable memories. This first picture is from our rooftop and the second one is the view from my bed room. On the third one you’ll see, that our flat is not perfect, but it just gives us more experiences, which we always makes something fun out of. The last picture is from one of our Italian dinners. #icyedk #icytovolunteer #icyetakeover

As an EVS/ESC-volunteer you will get a mentor. This is a local person, who will be your person during your stay. This means, that if you have any problems, questions, things to talk about or just wants some company, you can ask your mentor. In my case, most of the mentors of my fellow volunteers knows each other. It’s like one big community who just wants to make sure, that we as volunteers are doing good – and of course they are doing it, because they like to meet new cultures and people. I know, that when I get home to Danmark after my stay here in Greece, I will try to be a mentor myself, because I know, that it is a great opportunity to create good moments. Just like the one on this picture, where we are having a picnic all together 🌼🌸 #icyedk #icytovolunteer #icyetakeover
